Summit Saputara—Ahwa is the brainchild of Surti Runners—a marathon and runners conclave amidst the lush green forest of Dangs, Gujarat. In the nascent running culture of India, this was quite a daring plan. Since we had already worked with them previously, they gave us a free hand at communicating their vision further.
The challenge with the identity was to capture the feel of the forest without making it feel like a trail or cross-country race. This was achieved by balancing of modern shapes and typography with organic textures and imagery.
A responsive website was designed to market the event and to provide all the detailed information for the participants. Social media updates helped keep the buzz alive before the race weekend.
Three different t-shirt designs were exclusively designed for the event. The Promo tee, which teased the runners with the elevation chart; the Runner’s tee, which was given to each participant; and the Team tee, which was to identify the organising Surti Runners during the event.
Athlete guides, goodie bags, and BIBs were all designed to keep the visual experience consistent. Gates, distance markers, and winner’s checks were also designed. One of the most detailed aspects of the design list was to create the route maps for the half marathon (21.1KM) and full marathon (42.2KM).
All the runners enjoyed the experience a lot, and appreciate how design played a big role in it. We feel that events are the best opportunity to communicate everything about a brand—Surti Runners has clearly communicated that they are a group of runners that care about the sport, the nature, and the people involved in it.
